Get involved
We can’t do what we do without YOU!
The SWES PTC runs on the energy, creativity and commitment of our awesome volunteers! There are many ways you can lend your amazing skills and experience to our school community throughout the year:
Collaborate with a partner to Co-Chair a PTC special event, program or initiative
Provide crucial organizational and day-of support for special events as a committee member
Use your professional experience to provide guidance and assist with the PTC Board’s administrative activities
Volunteer during the school day as a classroom parent, K-1 lunchtime cafeteria helper, or bi-weekly media center assistant
Sign-up for opportunities to work a one-time, 30-60 minute shift staffing special events and initiatives throughout the year
Volunteering is a great way to get to know the school and connect with other parents. Pick the role that works best for you and feel good about having a direct impact on your child’s educational experience.
Want to be part of the team but not sure of your availability? Please reach out to us at sunitawilliamsptc@gmail.com at any point during the school year and we can help match you with the opportunities that work best for your schedule, skills, experience, and interests.
We can't wait to have you be part of the fun! Thank you for your time and support!
Co-Chair, Committee and Advisory Positions
A sign-up form for 2025-26 Co-Chair, Committee, and Advisory opportunities will be posted here by mid-July 2025. Please email us at sunitawilliamsptc@gmail.com with any questions about these roles.
One-Time PTC Volunteer Opportunities
Community-building special events and in-school programs are most successful when we have parent volunteers to staff them!
About four weeks ahead of each program or event, we will share a dedicated sign-up form asking parents to volunteer for a 30-60 minute shift, on-site. These opportunities will be posted here and shared in bi-weekly PTC E-mail updates and through room parent communications.
In-School Volunteer Opportunities
There are several ways for you to volunteer in the classroom or help run programs onsite during the school day.
Room Parent
Each school year we ask for two or three parents in each classroom to volunteer as Room Parents and support our classroom teachers. Room Parents work together as a team to plan seasonal events and celebrations for their classroom, organize teacher appreciation and class gifts, and help disseminate important information on behalf of the PTC. Read more about Room Parent responsibilities here.
A sign-up form for Room Parent for the 2025-26 School Year will be posted in early September.
K-2 Cafeteria Duty
Cafeteria Duty for Grades K-2 is being coordinated at the school level for the 2025-26 school year. Please watch for bi-weekly emails with a link to sign up for a time slot during the following two weeks. If you have any questions, please email Amy Sten at amy_sten@needham.k12.ma.us.
Media/ Library Support
Volunteers are needed in the school library to help out during weekly library classes. Responsibilities include checking in and checking out books, shelving, and organizational projects. If you are interested, please note the following:
-Volunteers must be able to make a year-long commitment.
-Volunteers must be available on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
-All new volunteers must attend a brief training.
-The maximum number of parent volunteers per classroom is four. Only two volunteers work at a time during a library visit.
If you are interested, please email Library Volunteer Coordinator Hillary Daly at hillysue@gmail.com for more information.
Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form
All in-school volunteers must complete and submit a CORI Form to the school prior to your first day on-site. Please email your completed form along with a copy of your driver’s license, front & back, to Lead Secretary Lori Donovan at lori_donovan@needham.k12.ma.us.
